One distinguishing feature reported in animal studies is selectivity. Ipamorelin stimulated growth hormone release with limited elevation of adrenocorticotropic hormone or cortisol compared with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6. This pattern has been described as more selective for the growth hormone axis. The finding comes mainly from preclinical work, and the degree to which it holds across species and doses is not fully settled. Reports also describe effects on gastric motility in animal models, suggesting activity outside the pituitary, though the clinical relevance of this observation is uncertain.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts on the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also known as the ghrelin receptor. Its sequence contains five amino acid residues, including a non-natural residue that increases stability against enzymatic breakdown. The compound was developed in the 1990s as part of research into small peptides that stimulate pituitary hormone release. Unlike larger protein hormones, it can be produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and characterized by standard analytical methods.
At the receptor level, ipamorelin binds GHS-R1a and triggers signaling through Gq-coupled pathways. Activation leads to calcium release and downstream effects in pituitary somatotroph cells. These events promote the release of growth hormone into circulation. The response depends on the presence of the receptor and on the physiological state of the animal or tissue studied. Because the receptor is also found in other tissues, effects beyond the pituitary have been examined in laboratory models, though the extent of those effects remains an area of ongoing study.
Compared with other secretagogues such as GHRP-2, GHRP-6, and hexarelin, ipamorelin is described as more selective. Published animal work reports little or no increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, or prolactin at doses that release growth hormone. This selectivity is the property most often cited in the research literature. Whether the same profile holds across species and dosing schedules remains an open question, since human data are limited and come largely from small studies.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue family. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, and its molecular mass is approximately 711.9 daltons. The compound was described in the late 1990s by researchers seeking molecules that release growth hormone with fewer side effects than earlier secretagogues. It is a laboratory and research compound, not an approved medicine in most jurisdictions.

Signal transduction begins when the peptide binds GHSR-1a on pituitary somatotrophs. The receptor couples to Gq/11 proteins, activating phospholipase C, which cleaves phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate into inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Inositol trisphosphate releases calcium from intracellular stores, and the resulting rise in cytosolic calcium drives growth hormone vesicle fusion. Concurrent Gs coupling and cyclic AMP elevation have also been reported, and the relative contribution of each arm to the overall secretory response is not fully settled.
Structural features distinguish the molecule from earlier secretagogues. An alpha-aminoisobutyric acid residue near the N-terminus and a D-naphthylalanine substitution increase receptor affinity, while C-terminal amidation improves resistance to exopeptidases. These modifications are associated with reduced stimulation of appetite and of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis compared with hexarelin or growth hormone releasing peptide-6. Whether the same profile applies at every dose level studied is a matter of ongoing investigation rather than settled consensus.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also called the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. Its sequence incorporates non-natural residues, which slows enzymatic breakdown relative to short native peptides. In laboratory and early clinical work the compound is described as a selective growth hormone secretagogue because it raises growth hormone with comparatively little effect on other pituitary outputs. The degree to which that selectivity holds across species and dosing regimens remains an open question in the published literature.
In animal and early human studies, ipamorelin produces pulsatile growth hormone release and a secondary rise in insulin-like growth factor 1. The magnitude and duration of that rise depend on route, sampling schedule, and the baseline endocrine state of the subject. Whether repeated exposure alters the response over time is not firmly settled, since some reports describe stable pulsatility while others note attenuation. Most published data come from small samples, which limits the strength of any general claim about long-term behavior.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue class of compounds. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, a structure that differs from natural ghrelin in length and in the presence of non-natural amino acid residues. Early laboratory work described it as a comparatively selective agent that stimulates growth hormone release with limited effect on other pituitary hormones. The compound is supplied as a lyophilized solid for research use and has no identified natural source in the body.
=== Food === The plant is the source of several popular herbs and one spice used in a wide variety of recipes, particularly among Mediterranean cuisines. They are typically removed from dishes before serving, although they may also be used as a simple garnish. Whole bay leaves have a long shelf life of about one year, under normal temperature and humidity. Whole bay leaves are used almost exclusively as flavor agents during the food preparation stage. Ground bay leaves, however, can be ingested safely and are often used in soups and stocks, as well as being a common addition to a Bloody Mary. Dried laurel berries and pressed leaf oil can both be used as robust spices, and the wood can be burnt for strong smoke flavoring.
=== Former markets === Russia – Pizza Hut began operating in Russia in 1991, when food supplies dwindled during the 1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt, prompting Russian president Boris Yeltsin to call Pizza Hut deliveries. Pizza Hut suspended operations in response to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Later some restaurants re-opened operations under rebranded new trademark PittsaN (ПиццаН). Panama – In 2022, the Pizza Hut chain ceased its operations in Panamanian lands after reporting economic losses. Argentina – Pizza Hut opened in Argentina in 1983; however, they withdrew some time later. They returned in the mid-1990s but withdrew again in 1998 due to poor sales success. It was announced that it will be brought back to the country in 2025, but the exact date has not been confirmed. Chile – In 2025, the Pizza Hut chain downsized its operations in Chile as one of its two franchising concerns, Food Delivery Brands (which also handled Telepizza), went bankrupt as a result of the economic crisis the country had faced in the past decade and increasing competition from rival chains such as Little Caesars and Papa John's.
== Medical uses == In the EU, opicapone is indicated as adjunctive therapy to preparations of levodopa/ DOPA decarboxylase inhibitors (DDCI) in adults with Parkinson's disease and end-of-dose motor fluctuations who cannot be stabilised on those combinations. In the US, opicapone is indicated as adjunctive treatment to levodopa/carbidopa in people with Parkinson's disease (PD) experiencing "off" episodes. The COMT inhibitor opicapone is used as an additive to a combination of levodopa and a DOPA decarboxylase inhibitor to treat patients with Parkinson's disease experiencing end-of-dose motor fluctuations, if they cannot be stabilised with this drug combination.
The ionizing radiation emitted by radium bromide excites nitrogen molecules in the air, making it glow. The alpha particles emitted by radium quickly gain two electrons to become neutral helium, which builds up inside and weakens radium bromide crystals. This effect sometimes causes the crystals to break or even explode. Radium nitrate (Ra(NO3)2) is a white compound that can be made by dissolving radium carbonate in nitric acid. As the concentration of nitric acid increases, the solubility of radium nitrate decreases, an important property for the chemical purification of radium. Radium forms much the same insoluble salts as its lighter congener barium: it forms the insoluble sulfate (RaSO4, the most insoluble known sulfate), chromate (RaCrO4), carbonate (RaCO3), iodate (Ra(IO3)2), tetrafluoroberyllate (RaBeF4), and nitrate (Ra(NO3)2). With the exception of the carbonate, all of these are less soluble in water than the corresponding barium salts, but they are all isostructural to their barium counterparts. Additionally, radium phosphate, oxalate, and sulfite are probably also insoluble, as they coprecipitate with the corresponding insoluble barium salts. The great insolubility of radium sulfate (at 20 °C, only 2.1 mg will dissolve in 1 kg of water) means that it is one of the less biologically dangerous radium compounds. The large ionic radius of Ra2+ (148 pm) results in weak ability to form coordination complexes and poor extraction of radium from aqueous solutions when not at high pH.
== Control of food intake == Allatostatin is found in the cells in a small neuronal cluster, the frontal ganglion. It is also present in the axons which leave the frontal ganglion and run across the surface of the gut. Application of low concentrations of Allatostatin inhibit the spontaneous contractions of the gut. All three forms of Allatostatin appear to inhibit gut motility in all the insects which have been tested.

Italian forces entered British Somaliland from Abyssinia on 4 August 1940, overcame the garrison at Hargeisa, and advanced north-east towards the capital Berbera. The British force, including a platoon of 43 Rhodesians in the 2nd Battalion of the Black Watch, took up positions on six hills overlooking the only road towards Berbera and engaged the Italians at the Battle of Tug Argan. Amid heavy fighting, the Italians gradually made gains and by 14 August had almost pocketed the Commonwealth forces. The British retreated to Berbera between 15 and 17 August, the Rhodesians making up the left flank of the rearguard, and by 18 August had evacuated by sea. The Italians took the city and completed their conquest of British Somaliland a day later. No. 237 Squadron embarked on reconnaissance flights and supported ground assaults on Italian desert outposts during July and August 1940. Two British brigades from West Africa arrived to reinforce Kenya's northern frontier in early July—the partly Rhodesian-officered Nigeria Regiment joined the front at Malindi and Garissa, while a battalion of the Gold Coast Regiment, also with Rhodesian commanders attached, relieved the KAR at Wajir. The British forces in East Africa adopted the doctrine of "mobile defence" that was already being used in the Western Desert in North Africa—units embarked on long, constant patrols to guard wells and deny water supplies to the Italians. The British evacuated their north forward position at Buna in September 1940, and expected an attack on Wajir soon after, but the Italians never attempted an assault.
Though crude oil is predominantly composed of various hydrocarbons, certain nitrogen heterocyclic compounds, such as pyridine, picoline, and quinoline are reported as contaminants associated with crude oil, as well as facilities processing oil shale or coal and have also been found at legacy wood treatment sites. These compounds have a very high water solubility and thus tend to dissolve and move with water. Certain naturally occurring bacteria such as Micrococcus, Arthrobacter, and Rhodococcus have been shown to degrade these contaminants. Because petroleum is a naturally occurring substance, its presence in the environment is not necessarily the result of human causes such as accidents and routine activities (seismic exploration, drilling, extraction, refining and combustion). Phenomena such as seeps and tar pits are examples of areas that petroleum affects without human involvement.
=== Spain === Since the 2008–2014 Spanish financial crisis began, Spain had had one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe, reaching a eurozone record of 21.3%. The number of unemployed people in Spain stood at 4,910,200 at the end of March 2011, up about 214,000 from the previous quarter, while the youth unemployment rate stands at 43.5%, the highest in the European Union. In September 2010 the government approved a sweeping overhaul of the labour market designed to reduce unemployment and revive the economy. Large trade unions such as CCOO and Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT), among other minor ones, rejected the plan because it made it easier and cheaper for employers to hire and fire workers. Trade unions called for the first general strike in a decade, on 29 September 2010. The anti-austerity movement in Spain, also referred to as the 15-M Movement and the Indignados Movement, was a series of protests, demonstrations, and occupations against austerity policies in Spain that began around the local and regional elections of 2011 and 2012. First starting on 15 May 2011, many of the subsequent demonstrations spread through various social networks such as Real Democracy NOW (Spanish: Democracia Real YA) and Youth Without a Future (Spanish: Juventud Sin Futuro). According to RTVE, the Spanish public broadcasting company, between 6.5 and 8 million Spaniards participated in these events.
The Edman degradation is an alternative method for peptide sequencing that cleaves amino acid residues from the N-terminus of a peptide. In 1950 Edman designed a reaction with phenylthiocyanate (the idea for which was borrowed from a 1927 study by Bergmann, Kann and Miekeley ) to give phenylthiocarbamyl peptides followed by hydrolysis under relatively mild conditions to cleave N-terminal amino acid as phenylthiohydantoin. Phenylthiohydantoin is stable enough to undergo various sequencing procedures such as those which involve chromatography and mass spectrometry. This was an improvement on an earlier method proposed by Abderhalden and Brockmann in 1930 that demonstrated N-terminal amino acid conversion to a hydantoin under stronger hydrolytic conditions, where some cleavage of the residual peptide proved problematic. The primary advantage the Edman degradation has over the Bergmann degradation is the ease with which the residual peptide can re-enter the process due to retention of its structure throughout sequential cleaving. Repetition of the Bergmann degradation is presumably not as straightforward, as the remaining peptide is in amide form.

=== 2015 University of Tromsø, Norway === In March 2015, the Norwegian University of Tromsø lost 8 radioactive samples, including samples of caesium-137, americium-241, and strontium-90. The samples were moved out of a secure location to be used for education. When the samples were supposed to be returned, the university was unable to find them. As of 4 November 2015, the samples are still missing.
Tolrestat (INN; AY-27773) is an aldose reductase inhibitor which was approved for the control of certain diabetic complications. While it was approved for marketed in several countries, it failed a Phase III trial in the U.S. due to toxicity and never received FDA approval. It was discontinued by Wyeth in 1997 because of the risk of severe liver toxicity and death. It was sold under the tradename Alredase.
One of these was the French chemist Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac, who was especially interested in fermentation processes, and he passed this fascination to one of his best students, Justus von Liebig. With a difference of some years, each of them described, together with colleagues, the chemical structure of the lactic acid molecule as we know it today. They had a purely chemical understanding of the fermentation process; it could not be observed using a microscope, and could only be optimized by chemical catalyzers. In 1857, the French chemist Louis Pasteur first described lactic acid as the product of a microbial fermentation. During this time, he worked at the University of Lille, where a local distillery asked him for advice concerning some fermentation problems. Per chance and with the badly equipped laboratory he had at that time, he was able to discover that in this distillery, two fermentations were taking place, a lactic acid one and an alcoholic one, both induced by microorganisms. He then continued the research on these discoveries in Paris, where he also published his theories that presented a stable contradiction to the purely chemical version represented by Liebig and his followers. Even though Pasteur described some concepts that are still accepted today, Liebig refused to accept them. But even Pasteur himself wrote that he was "driven" to a completely new understanding of this chemical phenomenon. Although Pasteur didn't find every detail of this process, he still discovered the main mechanism of how microbial lactic acid fermentation works.
== Detecting proteins == In some applications, it is necessary to measure the total amount of protein present, rather than the levels of one particular protein. In these cases nonspecific protein assays can be used to quantitate the amount of protein in a sample. Common nonspecific protein assays include the Warburg–Christian method, Kjeldahl method, Lowry assay, and Bradford assay. Many of these rely on the spectrophotometric properties of proteins themselves or in complex with various dyes or reagents. For example, the Bradford Assay exploits the absorbance properties of Coomassie brilliant blue G-250 dye. When free of protein, the dye is red but once bound to protein it turns blue. The Kjeldahl method, in contrast, does not use any dye and is instead a titrimetric assay, sensitive to the nitrogen content in the sample, which correlates with protein content. These assays vary widely in sensitivity, specificity to proteins over other compounds in the sample, and cost.
Prostaglandins are found in most tissues and organs. They are produced by almost all nucleated cells. They are autocrine and paracrine lipid mediators that act upon platelets, endothelium, uterine and mast cells. They are synthesized in the cell from the fatty acid arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is created from diacylglycerol via phospholipase-A2, then brought to either the cyclooxygenase pathway or the lipoxygenase pathway. The cyclooxygenase pathway produces thromboxane, prostacyclin and prostaglandin D, E and F. Alternatively, the lipoxygenase enzyme pathway is active in leukocytes and in macrophages and synthesizes leukotrienes.

It acts on the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, GHS-R1a, which is also the receptor for ghrelin. Binding triggers intracellular signaling that promotes growth hormone release from the pituitary. The interaction is the basis for its classification as a secretagogue.
In animal studies it showed greater selectivity for growth hormone release, with less effect on cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone than compounds such as GHRP-6. This selectivity is one of the most frequently cited features in preclinical literature. Whether the same profile applies in other contexts is not fully established.
The receptor-level events are reasonably well described, but the full range of downstream effects is not. Studies have reported activity in tissues beyond the pituitary, including the gut. How these observations translate across species and conditions remains an open question.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that stimulates growth hormone release by activating the ghrelin receptor. It is handled as a research tool rather than as a licensed therapeutic product. Its short chain length makes it comparatively simple to synthesize and analyze.
